Denver Tree Services: Tree trimming riles some Winter Park residents
It’s not your imagination: Tree-lined Winter Park has lost some shade due to aggressive tree trimming.
Winter Park’s forestry department and power utility have begun making significant V-shaped wedge cuts into many of the around 5,000 trees in in Winter Park to trim them away from power lines.
This aggressive tree trimming has upset man of the residents in the Winter Park area, which has always been fond of their trees in the area.
Previously trees were trimmed 4 feet from power lines, but this time they trimmed them 8 or more feet from the nearby power lines. This was to help prevent limbs from breaking and damaging a power line during a storm.
Many parts of the country utilizes a 10-foot space between their trees and their power lines.
Many emails were sent from people upset by what many consider to be excessive trimming.
There is a new plan underway to save the trees and kep the power lines safe from broken limbs, but it will not be revealed until the fall of 2012.
Even though there have been numerous complaints, the city has not taken any action to fix the problem. Winter Park is known for it’s beautiful forest, excellent mountain biking trails, and of course great ski slopes when the snow hits the ground.
The trees will grow back of course. Hopefully by the time the new plan happens we will see beautiful trees again in the Winter Park area.
